Looking to buy and acoustic Guitar but need help?
I am looking to buy an acoustic guitar. I know the basics of guitar and have a very good knowledge of music itself as I play 2 instruments, sing nd study music. I would like to know everything there is to know about guitar such as:
What is the best kind of guitar for a beginner?
Is it easy to teach yourself?
What kind of price would I be looking at?
Any other tips?
Thanks so much.
The best kind of guitar for a beginner is a guitar the beginner loves. This means trying out Guitars before buying one, and getting one that suits you in terms of feel, sound as well as price.
Is it easy to teach yourself? Yes, it is fairly easy and straightforward, although it definitely helps to have somebody to help you along and correct your mistakes. I would suggest taking lessons or learning from a friend rather than self-learning, because it’s important to pick up the right technique.
What kind of price? Well…. that’s difficult to say for sure. I’d say around 200$, although it depends on how much you can really afford.
I would say look into your price range, I’d say 200 is fairly reasonable, and look at all the guitars in the price range. Test them out, and compare them in terms of feel and sound. Sound is easy to test, get some one to play for you or just strum the strings to hear the tone and sustain. With the feel, you’ll probably want to hold down strings and see if they are easy to push down. If they aren’t they’re likely to cause you much pain, and this should be avoided. Also, the feel of the neck is a personal preference. Try placing your hand on the neck in a playing position to see how it feels. Some people prefer it thinner, others like it chunky. You’ll have to see what suits you best.
So yes, get the guitar that feels and sounds best to you regardless of brand.
Yet another thing you might want to consider is whether to get a steel string or a nylon. It all depends on the type of music you plan to play. Generally nylon is easier on the fingers, especially for beginners, but they do not sound as good generally as steel-string acoustics do when it comes to strumming and generally performing modern music.
Lastly, don’t forget to practice. Practice is the only way you’ll improve, so never give up.
Good luck and remember to have fun =)
